To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 1972 Summit Series between Canada and the USSR, Future Trends partnered with Hudson Bay to produce this commemorative release. Accordingly to Beckett, the 36 card autographed set – comprised of 35 Team Canada players and Russian goaltender Vladislav Tretiak – were randomly seeded between one-to-two autographs per case. Reportedly each player signed 750 cards in gold ink that were then coated with a swirl pattern. It has been also suggested that as many as 2,500 autographed sets without the swirl pattern coating were distributed through other channels by The Bay. Accordingly, collectors use the terms “Swirlies” and “Non-Swirlies” to differentiate between these variations.
SET STATUS: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! (100 Percent Complete with 36 of 36 cards.) |

SET STATUS: INACTIVE PROJECT (38.9 Percent Complete with 14 of 36 cards). Having completed the more desirable Swirly version autograph set. I have not invested any effort into pursuing additional Non-Swirly versions. Accordingly, vacant spaces let to fill for this set have not been created. |
