PUBLISHING OVERVIEW
This page covers the Bronze and Dark Ages for the New Teen Titans / New Titans series which under a variety of titles collectively ran from 1980 through 1996.
The New Teen Titans debuted as a bonus comic within DC Comics Presents issue #26 (cover date October 1980) before launching into their own series the following month. The New Teen Titans (1980 series) issues #1-40 spanned cover dates November 1980 to March 1984. That series was then retitled Tales of the Teen Titans and featured new material in issues #41-58 which spanned cover dates April 1984 to October 1985. Commencing with issue #59, that series began reprinting previously-published material, primarily from The New Teen Titans (1984 series). The reprint series ended with issue #91 (July 1988).
All the new material from The New Teen Titans (1980 Series) and the ensuing Tales of the Teen Titans has been completely collected in both hardcover and softcover formats.
In 1984 the flagship title was relaunched as New Teen Titans (1984 series) as a baxter format comic with higher quality paper, better printing, a higher price-point, and distributed only to comic shops. At launch, the stories in this book were set one publishing year in advance of the new stories published contemporaneously in Tales of the Teen Titans. At the end of that publishing year, the stories from the baxter format book were republished in Tales of the Teen Titans, which became a newsstand only title.
